Saturday 8th April saw Butch from
The Attai Press head out of South London and down to the Sunshine Coast to paint the front window of our offline store...

A full day of painting later we were left with this cool 'Burning Pet Store' design which is nicely catching the eye of passing punters!! We're looking forward to more collaborations with Butch and the Attai Press later this year....
Here's a little bit about the man himself..
Attai aka Butch Gordon is a resident of South London with a career in Street art spanning nearly 20 years.
It all started back in Birmingham where Butch was part of the skateboarding scene “…the two things always went hand in hand. If you skated then chances were that you tagged or knew someone that did … I got involved in a huge, mature graffiti scene that was flourishing in Birmingham in the 80s. Some of the work we discovered back then really blew me away and inspired me to move on from tagging and become a painter”
Over the next decade Butch’s work progressed through to big wall productions, t-shirt design, canvasses etc and culminated in a formal art training, where he gained a degree in Visual Arts.
Today, whilst still informing his work, the graffiti has moved aside to allow Attai’s illustration to shine through in a variety of mediums. He is as happy working with brushes and spray paint as he is with a mouse in his hand.
Personal work is inspired by everyday city life, architecture, animals, travelling, comic art “ I really got into some of the Daredevil stuff, Frank Miller. That inspired a lot of my recent, darker looking images.”
Music really helps too, years spent Dj’ing all over the place has left him with an extensive collection of records and he is always downloading mixes from websites like Dj History, H-track etc. “I have to have some background noise to keep me sane in the bunker”.
Attai’s past clients include: Crème Skateboards, Fenchurch, Habitat, Lucky strike, Shaman works and Little League records. There was also a very exciting series of collaborations with the sculptor Steve Gontarski from the White Cube gallery, some of which featured in the “Jam- Tokyo London” show and book.
For the future Attai wants to take this all further firstly by creating a series of short comic novels illustrating the spread of his trademark Attai characters. Also a series of three dimensional pieces are in the pipeline - a step away from the well trodden “street artist makes toys” scenario, into light sculptures mixed with characters and imagery.
